Pride, the Great Deceiver

Satan fell from his position as the messianic cherub. Ezekiel 28:17 reveals that his “heart was lifted up” because of his beauty. Cast down to the earth, Satan lost his heavenly position and now rules over the world’s system. Since humans are made from the dust of the ground, we should not be surprised at the initiations of the satanic kingdom to deceive and keep us from experiencing Christ’s life. Satan’s chief method is the projection of pride into the soul of the believer.

James 4:6b says, “God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble.” Therefore, the proud person is excluded from having a capacity to receive grace. Proverbs 6:17a says that God hates a proud look. Pride imitates the humility of Christ. Without the love of Christ, it cannot identify with the lowly. Jesus said, “I am meek and lowly of heart” (Matthew 11:29b). Jesus washed the disciples’ feet and told them to wash the feet of one another. The proud person has no desire to serve; he sheds no tears for the pain of others. Have you ever seen an effective soulwinner who lived in pride? Jesus looked at the multitude and felt great compassion (2). He looked out over Jerusalem and wept over the city (3). Only when we are humble, can Christ share with us His burden for the lost.
