God’s Love Comes First

Some of us find it very difficult to let God love us. Perhaps we feel unworthy or undeserving of such affection. What we need is to recognize that God is the only source of love. It was He who initiated love toward us.

1 John 4:19 explains, “We love him, because he first loved us.” This affection was expressed to the highest degree when He permitted His Son to become sin for us. “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son” (John 3:16a). The precious blood of Christ fulfilled every requirement of justice and thereby enables God to love us even though we are sinners.

Allow God to love you and creatively make you a relaxed, secure believer. Set aside time today and give the Father the opportunity to express the kind of love that compelled Him to send His Son to the Cross for you. “Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins” (1 John 4:10).
