“The Fresh and New Has Come!”

“Therefore if any person is … in Christ…he is …(a new creature altogether);  the old …has passed away.  Behold, the fresh and new has come!” (2 Corinthians 5:17)

It’s interesting what precedes the “therefore” in this verse:  “…we know Him no more [in terms of the flesh].” We can’t possibly,  because His flesh was crucified and taken out of the way with ours, on the Cross, never to be found again. Therefore,  when we find ourselves knowing ourselves and others “after the flesh”, we are relating to someone old and out of the way, who no longer exists as such!  So how do we rid ourselves of this old way of seeing and perceiving ourselves and other people? The Lord spoke to His beloved in Song of Solomon much the way He would perhaps address us today:  “Rise up, My love, My fair one, and come away.  For behold, the winter is past; the rain is over and gone.  The flowers appear…, the singing…has come, and the voice of the turtledove is heard…The fig tree puts forth her…figs, and the vines are in blossom and give forth their fragrance.  Arise, My love, My fair one, and come away.” (2:10-13)

Come away from the old, the stodgy, the stale, the LIFE-less, the hum-drum.  BEHOLD!  I have made all things new, and I will give you Grace to perceive this Truth and experience it for yourself.  But, by faith, make a decision to “put off and discard your old unrenewed self” (Eph.4:22), leave “Egypt” behind (Heb.11:27), and now, with the world behind you and My Cross before you, enjoy Divine newness moment by moment, in your thought life, emotions, decisions, in your conscience and self-consciousness;  be refreshed by coming to Me and finding ease, relief, relaxation, blessed quiet for your soul (Matt.11:28)  I have given you a new heart and a new spirit (Ezek.36:26) so that day by day you can know and experience for yourself all that I AM and all I have given you already in Heavenly places (Eph.1:3)!

“I am crucified with Christ; nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ.  And the life I now live I live by the faith of the Son of God…” (Galatians 2:20)

The Lord might continue saying to us:  And because your natural faith would never be sufficient for you to take in, believe, and be refreshed by all that I have for you, I’ve even given you MY Faith, which I have eternally had towards My Father, never doubting that He would uphold His Eternal Word. In other words, it will always be exactly as He has said (Acts 27:25).

Behold, the former things have come to pass, and NEW things I now declare:  before they spring forth I tell you of them.”  (Isaiah 42:8)

We can do nothing to undo the past, the former things.  But, we CAN do this one thing:  we can forget those things which are behind and stretch forward to what lies ahead (Phil.3:13), to the NEW which He declares to each of us, individually and corporately, through His Word and by His Spirit.

“Do not remember the former things;  neither consider the things of old.  Behold, I am doing a NEW thing! Now it springs forth, do you not perceive…it and will you not give heed to it?…” (Isaiah 43:18,19)

They remembered what God had forgotten and could not experience the new thing He was doing! Click To Tweet

Israel did not give heed to such words from their God through His prophet and suffered substantially as a result:  “Therefore thus says the Lord God:  Because you have made your guilt and iniquity to be remembered, in that your transgressions are uncovered, so that in all your doings your sins appear – because, I say, you have come to remembrance, you shall be taken with the  [enemy’s] hand.”  (Ezek.21:24) They remembered what God had forgotten (Jer.50:20; 31:34) and therefore could not press forward to experience “the new thing” He was doing for them!

“… a NEW and LIVING way…”!

“By this fresh (new) and living way which He … opened for us through the separating curtain (veil of the Holy of Holies), that is, through His flesh.”  (He.10:20)  Before this astounding promise we read verse 17, which quotes Jeremiah 31:34 – “And their sins and their iniquities I will remember no more.”  How could this be?!  Because “there is absolute remission (forgiveness and cancellation of the penalty) of these [sins and lawbreakings], …” (v.18).  And “[By the power and virtue] in the Blood of Jesus”, which has given us “full freedom and confidence to enter into the [Holy of] Holies…” (v.19)

This is how all things can truly be new, moment by moment…not by wishful thinking but according to a LIVING hope. ” Therefore, “Let us all come forward and draw near with true….hearts in unqualified assurance and absolute conviction…, having our hearts sprinkled and purified from a guilty…conscience…and our bodies cleansed with pure water. So let us seize and hold fast and retain without wavering the hope we cherish…, for He Who promised is reliable…and faithful to His Word.”  (He.10:22,23)

Lord, pour out Your Grace on us to be willing to shed the old, and embrace the new and live in it, reckon on it, enjoy it.  THIS is how the Son of Man will be made manifest and destroy the works of the devil (I John 3:8);  THIS is how the Son of God will be lifted up and draw all men unto Him (John 12:32).  This is how we will walk and live “free indeed”! (John 8:36)
