Gideon is an example of a person who was not prepared for the call of God. He was from a poor tribe of Manasseh (2), and he felt that God was a god of yesterday. He remembered how God delivered the children of Israel out of Egypt, yet he really thought the Lord had forsaken the tribes of Israel during his time. Gideon did not merit the call of God. I Corinthians 1:26-29 describes how God calls the weak, foolish, base, and despised things of this world “to bring to nought the things that are”. This is a principle that should be a premise for the call that God has for every believer.
God told Gideon that the issue was not that his family was poor, but that the Lord’s presence would be with him. Gideon had his natural thoughts of inadequacy converted to God’s adequacy. The blessing of the Lord never depends upon a believer’s adequacy in himself to feel like he can make something happen. Consider the life of Gideon: God took a man and used him in such a mighty way to bring a great victory for the children of Israel. God wants to use you to win a tremendous battle in your life today. Please let Him. “It is your Father’s good pleasure to give you the kingdom.” (Luke 12:32b).
