The measure of which you listen will be the measure of which you receive. The measure of which you receive will be the measure of which you experience what you heard. The measure of which you exercise faith will be the measure of which you enjoy that which produces faith. The measure of which you express and share redemption will be the measure of which you will have the power to be used to redeem. Our life is summed up in value in terms of what we receive, what we experience, and what we share. That is how valuable we are in the redemptive plan of grace.
Our biggest need is to train listeners. A man will have no problem with preaching if he has learned how to listen. Concentration which produces response, which gives me a capacity for initiation, becomes the ultimate goal of my relationship to Christ. Be swift to hear ( James 1:19). The greatest judgment we as believers will receive, not in terms of penalty, but in terms of suffering loss from what we could have had, will be our inability to listen in the concentration of a divine flow.
Our emphasis is on hearing, not on doing, being, or knowing. Christ knew that a man could not have a single eye with God unless he heard what a single eye was in Christ. Be careful how you hear and be careful what you hear (Mark 4:24; Luke 8:18). Be ready to hear (Ecclesiastes 5:1). How many problems have prevailed because people refused to be listening children?
