One of the greatest needs that we have is to get to know the Heavenly Father’s heart. Many serve, but they do not really know the one that they serve. Many preach, but forget to present the character and nature of the One whom they speak about. Why? They do not have fellowship with their Savior.
Paul said, in Philippians 3:10a, “That I may know him.” Paul’s purpose for living was to know Him. How should we get to know the Lord? The answer comes in the next part of the verse: “In the power of his resurrection.” We are to know Jesus Christ in the power of His resurrection. It is in the locative case, which means God wants our lives to be located continually fellowshipping in the power of Christ’s resurrection. This means that death is worked in us, so that life can be released in others. “For we which live are always delivered unto death for Jesus’ sake, that the life also of Jesus might be made manifest in our mortal flesh. So then death worketh in us, but life in you” (II Corinthians 4:11-12).
Knowing Him is the key. Like Paul, “Consider everything a loss compared to the surpassing greatness of knowing Christ Jesus” (Philippians 3:5a, NIV).
