Love Guided by the Word

Ask a number of persons on the street today the meaning of “love.” What will they say? Probably every person would have a different answer. Christians will offer many opinions. Believers often say “God is love,” and think of true love as an abstract emotional euphoria.

The Psalmist in Psalm 119:66a said, “teach me good judgment and knowledge.” He cried out to the God of knowledge (2) to teach him specifically how to discern and act properly in the diverse details of life. Paul taught in Philippians 1:9 that love should abound “more and more in knowledge and in all judgment.” He wanted believers to have a discerning and precise love led by proper teaching from the Bible. How different this is from the world’s concepts! People need to be taught by God as the Thessalonians were. They had been “taught of God to love one another,” because they had received the Word “as it is in truth, the Word of God.” In I John 2:5a, John wrote, “Whoso keepeth His Word, in Him verily is the love of God perfected.” Direction from the Word of God will perfect our love with a healthy flow.

Jesus said that man should live by every Word of God. How we need to take that into the area of love! Let’s love by every Word of God.
