God will never leave a believer to face a difficulty without comfort, instruction and a promise. Whether or not a believer remains calm in a situation is actually a matter of choice – he must decide to be quiet, listen, wait, and then obey. That is why it is so important to have a heart of humility, a willingness to learn and not a heart of pride. “The meek will I teach” (Psalm 25:9).
The believer must listen to God’s Word. This does not mean passivity, but quietness by choice. He listens to the Word of God, and then follows with obedience. That is God’s divine blueprint for every single difficulty and trial a Christian will ever face. He wants us to have the same mental attitude response as David in Psalm 59:9, “Because of His strength will I wait upon thee: for God is my defense.” And, “I will fear no evil for thou art with me” (Psalm 23:4).
Therefore, there is no need for the believer to enter into restless activity in the flesh or to worry in the mind. The believer should not try to “help God”! Our part is to study to be quiet and God’s part is to speak. Only when we are silent will we hear the voice of God. According to God’s Word, this is the way to handle a job situation, marriage, finances… every aspect of life. What happens when a Christian is quiet before God? He endures anything that comes his way, because his eyes and heart are fixed on God Almighty.
