Being a true servant of God means that you have no claims on your life. You have made Jesus Christ Lord and He has control over you.
Paul taught that one of the most significant aspects of being a servant is to be spent. “And I will very gladly spend and be spent for you: though the more abundantly I love you, the less I be loved” (II Corinthians 12:15). Paul’s service was characterized by fervency, but also faith rest, peace that passed understanding, joy, delight, godly reverence and godly fear because he knew that the Lord was his witness (2). He did not mind giving up personal rights and becoming a doormat for others if it was for the Gospel’s sake.
Oh, how free and committed Christians would be if they knew that God was their witness, and that is all that matters. Because of this, Paul refused to be moved. “But none of these things move me, neither count I my life dear unto myself” (Acts 20:24a). Allow God to have unconditional claim on you, and know that it is all for your good. He has nothing but thoughts of peace toward you. “For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you an expected end” (Jeremiah 29:11).
