The Resurrection Side of Life

To me, the funniest scene in the Bible is in John 21. I’ll never figure it out. Peter had already seen the resurrected Jesus twice. But Peter said, “I’m going fishing!”

Now, in Luke 5, Peter was told never to go fishing- for fish-again. Yet, Peter rebelled. “I’m going fishing!” Why? Condemnation. Shame. A poor spiritual selfimage. Peter knew that Christ was resurrected, but he was so ashamed. He remembered how he had denied Jesus and how the Lord turned and looked upon him (Luke 22:61- 62).

Jesus turned to Peter to show him compassion with His eyes, but Peter went out and wept bitterly. He could not forgive himself.

Please get this straight: No matter what you have done, accept God’s forgiveness. Accept total forgiveness so that you can’t even recall your sin. You will be so filled with the Spirit, you will be a believer who consistently lives on the resurrection side of life.
