Blessed Memories

Memories can be either a blessing or a curse for the believer. The memory of the just is a blessing because it is kept by the Word of God. “Remember them which have the rule over you, who have spoken unto you the Word of God” (Hebrews 13:7a). We have sweet memories of all of those who have taught us the Word and disciple us. It is an encouragement to think about other Christians whom God has placed in our paths. “The memory of the just is blessed: but the name of the wicked shall rot” (Proverbs 10:7).

However, bad memories may arise if a person does not have the Word of God in certain areas. He may remember past sins, and allow the thoughts to plague his mind. This believer needs to have the Word of God reigning in his soul. Through God’s Word, the Holy Spirit will remind the Christian that his sins are forgotten (2).

As we begin to secure the Word in our souls, our memory will call to mind past mercies (3), the wonderful works of God (4), His deliverance (5) and the teachings of the Gospel (6). It is then that our memories will be a blessing and a joy to us.
