What would you think if someone said to you, “Breathe without ceasing?” You would not take offense at it. the apostle Paul said, “Pray without ceasing” (I Thessalonians 5:17). Prayer is to the Christian what breathing is to all mankind. The prayer of the saints are precious (2). Prayers are like incense to the golden alter before the throne (3).
It is so easy to harbor petty grievances with our friends and become subjective over situations. Job, however, prayed for his friends and received double what he had lost. Luke 18:1 states “that men out always to pray, and not faint.” Jesus possessed omniscience; yet, He depended on prayer.
Let us not forget that we are dependent on the Father. Prayer is surrendering to the heart of God. It is our very lifeline to the Father. It is what makes us effective Christians. As breathing is vital for the body, so too our effectual, fervent prayer will avail much. “The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much” (James 5:16b).
