Renewing the Mind

It is very important to understand the necessity of hearing the Word. Thoughts form lines in the memory center. The depth of these lines is determined by how long and how frequently we ponder something. This is not forced upon anyone. Our free volition determines the intake of our memory center.

In essence, Proverbs 23:7 tells us that we are what we think. Our actions will eventually reveal the content of our thoughts. Therefore, if we want to be like Christ then we need to have His mind (1 Corinthians 2:16). He has not left us in the dark, for His thoughts are recorded in the Bible. Therefore, as we are faithful to hear and study the Word, our lives will be transformed.

Paul encourages us in Romans 12:2: “And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect will of God.” The word “renewing” is anakainosis in the Greek text. In the context of this verse, the word refers to a continual process of renovation. Our minds are constantly being renewed. As we receive more of His Word, we reflect more of His character.

Let us purpose to hear and reflect upon His Word today so that we might become more like him.
