The Christian Life Is Not Hard

Christ’s extraordinary love for you and I is so marvelously expressed in I Cor. 5:17: “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creature; the old things are passed away; behold, new things have come.” This declaration of God is so rich that we will spend all our days learning the realities of it!

I have heard it said many times, “The Christian life is hard.” This is a lie. It is a lie that keeps people in bondage. The life of Christ is not hard, neither is His truth or His way. We have the help of the Spirit at all times and it is perfect help. I am made a new creature, and the Christian life is what is natural for this new creature. What is hard is to try to live this Christian life with my flesh. The flesh is simply not able, but it will strive that it might live.

But we are not our flesh, we are new creatures; we are not to put ourselves to death day by day, it is the flesh that is to be mortified that way. We testify of freedom in Christ, not a struggle to get to Him or to please Him. We do not testify that the Christian life is a struggle, we testify that we walk with the One who is victorious already, the One who forgives 70×7! And we believe that He forgives like this because we are so greatly loved.

What am I as a new creature? I have the mind of Christ. I have the life of Christ. I have the Spirit of Christ who is guiding and comforting. It is not hard for a sheep to act like a sheep because it has the life of a sheep. Christ is our life! This is the testimony of one who is living in the love of Christ and His Father.
