The spirit of man is the candle of the Lord. It is so vital for man to truly understand his constitution. Man has so many great difficulties, particularly in the soulish or psychological realm, because he does not, even partially, understand this wonderful truth. Man is made of body, soul and spirit (1 Thessalonians 5:23). We are to understand that our human spirit must be kept open to be the candle of the Lord. If our spirit is not left open to be God's candle, no matter what we try to do, desire to do, or intend to do, we are only left with our soul in its original power that it received at creation. So we are left with a capacity for ourselves without the capacity for God. What a snare that is.
Man has a great capacity to think, imagine, remember, and to know right and wrong, but has no capacity for light through God. What happens when a person takes his capacity for himself to church, to a real godly ministry? Then, at best he will be frustrated and despise it, because he has no capacity for it. This is why there are so many denominations, though God uses them.
People so often fellowship in terms of their own capacity for themselves, so consequently they come forward with their own line of theology and the expression of their own subjective inclinations. They can interpret a theology about God, but not live in the life of God that gives real liberty in Christ. The Holy Spirit lights our candle so that we might be the true light.
