How many counselors give their evaluation by sight and reason and never wait upon God to renew them with the strength of His perfect will? They never consider the sovereignty of God because they assume the right to judge according to their own understanding of the letter of the Word of God. Each case that involves a child of God also includes a plan. Our advice by sight could draw a person away from the sovereign plan of God experienced through faith.
If one partner in a marriage is not saved, the other can be coerced by wrong counsel to submit at all times. The counselor giving such advice has failed to abide by God’s Word. The Bible says that when Christ is the head of the man, then the man is the head of the woman (1 Corinthians 11:3). God’s nature never will submit to Adam. The husband or wife who has given his life to Christ has Christ as his head. By receiving the life of the Head, he automatically operates in the same love, mercy, forgiveness, and grace that God Himself does.
A wife must submit to her husband as it is fit in the Lord (Colossians 3:18), but she cannot be the cause of his salvation (1 Corinthians 7:14). She can be a living example to draw him to Christ, but the verse in 1 Corinthians means that her unsaved husband is set apart that she may operate in the life of Christ as she walks in the Spirit. The responsibility before God for his salvation is his responsibility and not according to her walk before God.
