The beginning of wisdom is the fear of the Lord (2). To fear the Lord means to go to Him first about anything. Whatever situation you find yourself in, you should speak to God first, before you react in any way. This is not fear with a negative anxiety or psychological fear. Rather, we are referring to a full respect or awe of Deity.
Every day, we find ourselves in circumstances in which we need to rely on God. Many times Christians do not stop and pray for God’s wisdom, but apply earthly wisdom instead. The Word of God says, “If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him” (James 1:5).
What we need to do is to wait on God, by stopping and asking God for His mind for the situation before we react. We need to fear by appropriating God’s knowledge through all the details and situations of our life. That is the reason we are to “Serve the Lord with fear” (Psalm 2:11a). Not fear with anxiety, but fear that brings forth fruit by appropriating God’s wisdom in every day life.
