Disobedience to Simple Mandates

The exhortation to every believer is to maintain continuous availability to the Word of God. “As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the Word, that ye may grow thereby” (I Peter 2:2). As the believer saturates himself in the Word with an attitude of being teachable, the Word itself will produce the action of transforming and renewing the mind. It is in this frame of reference that the child of God presents his body a living sacrifice to be obedient and do that which is his reasonable service in light of what he has been given (2). It is the inward transformation of the mind, through the Word of God, that produces a godly life.

The simple mandates of the Word of God are those areas of activity that are a vital part of every believer’s life for they are his source of life in order to continue in the Kingdom of God. Disobedience to these general commands results in spiritual blindness because the believer cuts himself off from the avenues God has provided to produce in him divine life.

Church attendance (3), Bible study (4), prayer (5), soulwinning (6), and fellowship (7) all appear in the imperative mood, meaning they are divine commands that cannot be ignored, because they indicate outwardly what is taking place inwardly. When taken heed to, these things produce fruit in the child of God.
