How many things go ahead of our First Love until we lose its constraining presence in our lives? God wants love to be first because of the result it brings to the Kingdom. What was on God’s heart at the end of every Gospel (Matthew 28:19, Mark 16:15, Luke 24:47, John 20:21)? Soul-winning was on God’s heart. The last thing Christ did as He died on Calvary was to win a soul, imparting eternal life to the thief on the Cross beside Him. Why does God give us Finished Work rest? Because a person placed in Christ in the rest of that experience and in the co-labors of love can be a great soul-winning specialist.
Soul-winning was on Jesus’ mind when He left. It was why He came, and it was what He did when He was here. He died to win souls. Live in the same reason why Christ came. Reveal why He came by allowing God to make you a specialist. We persuade men in the Spirit of God’s power because we know the terror of the Lord (1 Corinthians 5:11). We know of the judgment seat in Heaven (1 Corinthians 5:10). We win souls because we are constrained by love. We do not want to be occupied with our own barrenness or fears. Win souls in the purpose and reason of God. Jesus was interested in personal soul-winning when He sent Philip, who was preaching to a multitude, to win the Ethiopian eunuch (Acts 8:25-40). Jesus lived His whole life in the first cause, Love, that as a result others might have their first breath of life in the Kingdom.
