“He sent his Word, and healed them, and delivered them from their destruction” (Psalm 107:20). The Lord Jesus Christ gave us His Word, which testifies of His great desire to heal His people. He is present to perform this in every single believer. Luke 5:17 says, “The Lord was present to heal them.”
The Lord met a woman named Mary Magdalene, who was a prostitute. She was possessed with seven demons and had many infirmities. Jesus cast out the demons and completely healed the woman (2). This is just one of many miracles He performed. Among others, He restored a blind man’s sight (John 9), a deaf man’s hearing, healed a man with palsy, and another who had a withered hand.
Jesus wants to do more than a small work in the midst of His children. He is not unmoved by the hurts people experience. He wants to bring blessings into marriages, and to give victory over habits or weaknesses in believer’s lives. Our Lord heals people today, for His nature has not changed. He is the same yesterday, today and forever (3). The sovereign God wants to heal areas in our lives based upon His grace. Grace depends upon who God is and what He has done, never upon our identity or performance.
As we learn more of His precious Word each day, we can rest assured in His promise in Jeremiah 30:17a, “For I will restore health unto thee, and I will heal thee of thy wounds, saith the Lord.”
