Many Christians live a fast-paced life, but they never learn to set apart a time to rest. They continue in endless activity, hurrying from place to place. “And he said unto them, come ye yourselves apart into a desert place, and rest a while; for there were many coming and going, and they had no leisure so much as to eat” (Mark 6:31).
God rested on the seventh day from His work, even before He gave the ten commandments (2). God explained that the land must lie still if it is to produce (3). When the land lies fallow, it receives nutrients back into it so it can produce better the following year. And, “there remaineth therefore a rest to the people of God” (Hebrews 4:9). God has set apart a time of renewal for His people. Honor God’s principle of rest so that you will not become weary in your daily activity and service.
Think what this could mean for you as you take yourself away from the pressures of this life to be quiet and receive from God. “For he that is entered into his rest, he also hath ceased from his own works, as God did from his. Let us labor therefore to enter into that rest, lest any man fall after the same example of unbelief” (Hebrews 4:10-11).
