“But if I say, I will not mention Him or speak any more in His name, His word is in my heart like a burning fire, shut up in my bones. I am weary of holding it in; indeed I cannot” (Jeremiah 20:9, NIV). Jeremiah knew if he did not speak the Word of God it would be as a burning fire trapped in his bones. We, too, have the Word of God stored inside of us to share with others. “Therefore every teacher of the law who has been instructed about the kingdom of Heaven is like the owner of a house who brings out of his storeroom new treasures as well as old” (Matthew 13:52, NIV). We have the treasure of the Gospel. Therefore, we need to be like Jeremiah – we should not contain it, but share it.
Trials come our way because God wants to reveal His riches in us. He believes we are mature enough, so He places a trial before us so that we can have the privilege of manifesting God. Many times, we do not endure the trial, and God’s riches are not seen. Often, we keep the treasure for ourselves and God is not glorified. True discipleship is manifesting God. “Freely you have received, freely give” (Matthew 10:8b).
