The Coming of Light

A healthy soul is the key to spiritual advancement for the believer. Satan addresses his attack to the soul but cannot be effective unless he is given a place through the believer’s volition. The volition functions as a guardian over the other parts of his soul. Satan wants the believer to make wrong decisions, reaping the consequences in every area.

In Luke 22:31, Jesus declared “Simon, Simon, behold, Satan has demanded permission to sift you like wheat” (NAS). In Amos 9:9, the word “sift” means “to wander mentally.” Satan’s intention is to make a mental fugitive out of the believer. He wants him to deviate from truth. James 1:2 tells us to “consider it all joy, my brethren, when you encounter various trials.” When we enter into a trial, the priority is that we discern Jesus Christ. In the midst of darkness and chaos, we must seek the face of the Lord. We must ask Him for wisdom and discernment. “And the earth was formless and void, and darkness was over the surface of the deep… Then God said, “Let there be light,’ and there was light… and God separated the light from darkness” (Genesis 1:2-4, NAS). When the Lord speaks, there is light, and we can distinguish truth from a lie.

When trials come upon you, and there seems to be nothing but darkness and chaos all around, ask the Lord for wisdom and wait on Him to speak. Light will come (Isaiah 42:16).
