“But without faith it is impossible to please him; for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him” (Hebrews 11:6). Faith is the one thing that pleases God. We must do everything to promote it, and be careful not to hinder it through careless remarks or insensitive criticism.
The woman who anointed Christ’s feet with precious ointment responded to Him in faith. Jesus commanded her critics to “let her alone” (Mark 14:6a). Those who walk by sight will always misunderstand and criticize those who walk by faith.
Consider Christ’s remark to Peter, “What is that to thee? Follow thou me” (John 21:22). What occupied John and Peter was not the issue. The issue for us is that we must follow the Lord, standing in accordance with our own personal choice, as we respond in faith to His Word. We are not to have our eyes on other people, but on our personal walk before God. That is what counts.
We are commanded to live by faith (2), so encourage those around you to believe God and to hear the word daily. “Faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God” (Romans 10:17).
