Jesus Christ, the Living Expression of Grace

The expression of God’s grace in redemption is Jesus Christ. Ephesians 2:7 expresses this principle: “That in the ages to come He might shew the exceeding riches of His grace in His kindness toward us through Christ Jesus.” The riches of God’s grace are “unending, (boundless, fathomless, incalculable and exhaustless) riches of Christ — wealth which no human being could have searched out” (Ephesians 3:8b, Amplified).

The Apostle Paul was used as a vessel to pour out God’s grace, mercy, lovingkindness, and the experience of His superabundant life upon wretched, sinful, undeserving, condemned human beings who merely accept the riches in Christ, by faith. God’s wisdom is revealed in His plan that does, indeed, confound the wisdom of both the angels and men! The entire scope of God’s plan throughout the ages is carried out through the infinite power of grace.

To begin with, we are “called” or invited into union with Christ by grace (2). In Ephesians 2:8, it is grace that “saves,” or regenerates those who were dead in trespasses and sin (4). Once saved and brought into a state of God’s favor, we “stand” in grace (5). By the Word of grace (the commands, counsels, and promises of His unmerited favor), we are “built up” in the faith and “receive His inheritance” among the saints! (6)
