Not By Bread Alone

Picture Jesus on the mount of temptation, and Satan is tempting Him. He has been baptized, and the Father has said He is pleased with His Son (Mat thew 3:17), but Satan contests the Father’s declaration.

Satan tempted the Lord when He hadn’t had food for forty days and nights. He answered the temptation by quoting Deuter onomy 8:3. “It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God” (Matthew 4:4).

Do you refer to the Scriptures precisely as Jesus did? 1 Peter 2:21 says, “For even hereunto were ye called: because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that ye should follow his steps.” Or do you say, “I don’t have to go to the Scriptures all the time”? Are you greater than God is? At the weakest point in His Humanity prior to Calvary, Jesus said, “Man shall not live by bread alone but by every word of God.” Bread is a necessary detail of life. It was His great need at that moment. Yet, Jesus said we shall live by every single word that comes out of God’s mouth. Measure yourself and your faithfulness by every word of God. It is written, and it is still in force and it stands today.
